Smoky Lower-Fat Bacon Turkey Burgers
Smoky Lower-Fat Bacon Turkey Burgers: Submitted by: Kimmo Vallema | Date Added: 18 Dec 2020 Ingredients:

4 strips turkey bacon, nitrate-free

1 1/4 pounds (567 g) leanest ground turkey

1/3 cup (27 g) whole rolled oats

1 teaspoon dry mustard

1 teaspoon cumin

1/2 teaspoon each salt and fresh-ground black pepper

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, optional

2 teaspoons (10 g) low-sugar ketchup

2 teaspoons (10 ml) Worcestershire sauce (organic to avoid high-fructose corn syrup)

1 teaspoon 100 percent maple syrup

1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar

1/4 cup (25 g) minced scallion, optional

4 whole-grain sandwich thins

2 to 4 teaspoons (10 to 20 g) country Dijon mustard, low-sugar ketchup, or low-sugar barbecue sauce, to taste

4 red lettuce leaves

8 thin slices ripe avocado

4 thick slices tomato

Cooking Instructions:

Cook the bacon to crispy in a dry skillet over medium heat according to package directions, break in half, and set aside on paper towels.

Preheat the grill to medium heat.

In a large bowl, gently mix together the turkey, oats, dry mustard, cumin, salt, peppers, ketchup, Worcestershire, syrup, vinegar, and scallion until just combined. Do not overhandle or the burgers will be tough.

Form 4 loose patties and gently indent the centers of each one for more even cooking. Grill for about 4 to 6 minutes, flip, and grill for another 4 to 6 minutes, or until cooked to desired doneness.

Toast the sandwich thins for the last 30 seconds of cooking time and coat with your condiment of choice. Serve each burger stacked with 2 bacon strip halves, 1 lettuce leaf, 2 slices of avocado, and 1 slice of tomato
